Those who are reasonably fit should not miss the opportunity of hiking in the Drakensberg of KwaZulu-Natal. All the areas of this range offer magnificent walks and vistas.
No visitor should feel that he or she is missing out if a
certain area is not included in the itinerary. Certain guide books place
emphasis based on the writer’s limited experience and so create the impression
that certain areas are better than others. That is just not so, on a scale from
1 to 10 all areas are similar in terms of hiking, views , thrills and general
experience.
Take good advice, speak to the packpack owners , most of whom , with a possible exception, have your interests at heart. Information offices, guide books and other guests do not know the full story.
There are hikes to suit all levels of fitness, please do attempt anything too advanced or anything you do not do regularly at home, just because it sounds like a good idea now you are on holiday.
Inkosana Lodge in the central “Berg offers quality accommodation and honest advice for the whole Drakensberg. From here you can visit all areas in the northern and central ‘Berg and Battlefields in a day.
See www.inkosana.co.za and www.visitkwazulunatal.co.za for good information when you travel the province, or Zungeza as the Zulus say.
