Welcome to the wonderful world of the Zulu. The name KwaZulu-Natal is derived from “the place of the Zulu” and “Natal” for Christmas, as the country was named on that day long ago by Portuguese seafarers. This province lies on the east coast of South Africa between the warm Indian Ocean and the Drakensberg mountains in the west.
Four quality backpackers in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) have got together and formed ZUNGEZA, a joint marketing plan, to help you, the traveller to move around the province in comfort while enjoying the best it has to offer.
The climate in KZN is legendary, a perpetual summer on the coast with warm dry winters and occasional summer rain. In the ‘Berg the summers are warm to hot with occasional rain. Winters can be cold at night with warm, dry hiking days. Occasional cold fronts bring a day or so of snow on the high mountains.
On the whole KZN is an excellent destination all year round. In the spring when the rest of South Africa is still cold and/or wet we are warm and dry!!! So, as part of a long tour of South Africa or as a destination on its own for a few weeks, come to KZN for the ideal ZUNGEZA. See our locations on the map and click on the links to view the four individual websites and make a booking. Visit KZN
